We wanted to let you know of our planned and confirmed events happening in 2012 so you can get these dates in your diaries.
This spring, why not come to see the Lizard choughs courtesy of the watchpoint at Southerly Point. Our binoculars and telescope allow great close-up views of these Cornish crows as they fly to and from their nesting cave. Our friendly wardens can show you other wildlife in the area too, including seabirds and grey seals.
The watchpoint will be open every day though it may be necessary to close in bad weather and during periods of low tide if wardens need to protect the nest from disturbance. If the watchpoint is closed, a notice board will detail the latest chough information.
The watchpoint at Southerly Point, Lizard, TR12 7NU (SW700114). Starts Sunday 1 April and runs through to early June from 10am – 5pm.
Join members of the Cornwall Chough Project for guided walks along the most southerly tip of the Lizard Peninsula or from Kynance Cove to see the wild Cornish choughs and other Lizard wildlife. The guided walks will 'take' you through the chough's natural and historic return while, at the same time, introduce you to their habitat and the careful management of these fascinating and very special areas.
Southerly Point walks are on Sunday 22 April and Sunday 20 May. Meet at Southerly Point, Lizard, TR12 7NU (SW700114) at 9am.
Kynance Cove walks are on Sunday 3 June and Sunday 10 June. Meet at Kynance Car Park, Lizard, TR12 7PJ (SW688132).
The Wildlife Weekend at the Lizard is back! It is the perfect opportunity to see and learn more about choughs and other local wildlife on the Lizard. With a wide range of activities, there should be something for everyone. The Cornwall Chough Project will be giving free guided walks, wildlife talks, craft demonstrations, as well as lots of fun activities for children.
Lizard Wildlife Weekend - Saturday 23 June and Sunday 24 June 10am - 4pm on the Green in Lizard village, TR12 7NQ (SW703125)
For all walks, please ensure you wear suitable outdoor clothing. All events are dependent on the weather so it may be best to check before hand, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 07581 194940. All our events are free but donations are welcome. All donations go to the Cornwall Chough Project.
We can't thank you enough for the support and love everyone has given the choughs not only in 2011 but for the past 10 years since their return but we are going to try!
We had a fantastic and very successful year in 2011. Here are just some of the highlights: 15 chicks fledged, unringed choughs appeared, t-shirts were made and bought, thousands of people visited the watch point, wildlife weekend on the Lizard, Nos Palores with the black and red fancy dress, Bagas Crowds cliff tribute, chough club, a 10th year anniversary and of course all the brilliant volunteers and fund raisers.
Thank you to everyone you helped the choughs in some way this year; the watches, at the events, with chough club, fund raising, attended our talks, monitoring the birds throughout the year and reporting your sightings.
THANK YOU! Here's to an exciting 2012!
Our Wildlife Weekend took place over the 18th and 19th June on the Lizard and in the evening was an event with music and entertainment with a chough like black and red dress code.
These guys definitely got into the spirit of the choughs!
